Surface Engineering has played a key role in the industrial development of Korea. In this talk, historical development of domestic industry in South Korea will be delivered in viewpoints of surface treatment as well as heat treatment technological progress. In addition, the role of KIMS will be introduced in short which kept function of surface engineering since 1976 and still takes the leading position for domestic surface treatment industry.

The historical and present activity of KIMS surface engineering will be outlined with a list of research experience with aims at future collaboration with Chinese cooperative partner.
