　　Abstract

　　I shall try to discuss the role of EPS in biocorrosion and bioleaching. It starts with the analysis of the EPS composition for SRB and leaching bacteria, some ideas about the function of EPS, Visualization of biofilm and microorganisms in biofilm by confocal laser scanning microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy and final conclusions plus ideas, in which direction further work is needed.

　　Prof. Wolfgang Sand，德国杜伊斯堡-埃森大学教授，杜伊斯堡-埃森大学生物膜中心水生生物技术系主任，在微生物学、生物湿法冶金和微生物腐蚀研究等领域有专门研究。已发表200余篇国际期刊论文，编著出版Microbially influenced corrosion of materials等多本专著；担任欧洲多个项目的负责人，International Biodeterioration and Biodegradation 等数个杂志的编委；东北大学客座教授。
