We introduce a recent education program in Tohoku University which we call the “Interdepartmental Doctoral Degree Program for Multi-dimensional Materials Science Leaders”, or shortly abbreaviated as the MD program. The purpose of the program is to foster a creative vision of the future in students who graduate with a doctorate in the expectation that they will become leaders capable of achieving their potential anywhere in the vast fields of industry, academia, and even government. Therefore, the term “multi-dimensional” in the MD program refers to the extensive, panoramic perception of materials through a lot of dimensions, such as the characteristics of materials, material processes, environmental compatibility, economics, safety, etc. We welcome students from abroad who demonstrate strong potential and wish to join this multidimensional program. In this talk, we will also present some relevant recent research results performed by a student and staffs under the MD program, especially on the thermoelectric properties of carbon nanotubes and on the optoelectronic properties of atomic-layered materials.
About the presenters:
1. Ahmad R. T. Nugraha is an assistant professor at Department of Physics, Tohoku University under the MD program sponsorship. His current research interests are on optical and thermal properties of carbon nanotubes.
2. Yuki Tatsumi is a Ph.D student in Department of Physics, Tohoku University, specializing in theoretical condensed matter physics. He is now working on optoelectronic properties of atomic-layered materials.
