应我所邀请，2006年度李薰材料科学讲座系列讲座奖获得者，德国Erlangen-Nǖrnberg大学材料科学与工程系Hael Mughrabi教授于2006年8月23-29日来我所访问，并做系列学术讲座：（1）Cyclic Deformation and Fatigue of  Ultrafine-Grained Metals （2）Fatigue Mechanisms in the Ultrahigh Cycle Regime （3）Role of Geometrically Necessary Dislocations in Inducing Long-Range Internal Stresses and Lattice Plane Misorientations in Deformed Crystals.

Mughrabi教授是我所的老朋友，此次访问是Mughrabi教授于1994年来我所访问之后的第二次来访。来访期间，Mughrabi教授分别参观了沈阳国家材料科学（联合）实验室和研发中心，还与我所部分研究部的研究人员和研究生就共同感兴趣的问题进行富有成果的交流，我所青年科研人员和研究生良好的科学素养及近期的研究成果和我所良好的科研设备给Mughrabi教授留下深刻印象，他在留言中写到：It is a praiseful to work at an institute of such high reputation that is well equipped and that has so many gifted young researchers, to all those who have contributed to the success of this institute. Keep up your motivation, keep up the high standard!

Mughrabi教授1970年毕业于德国斯图加特大学物理系，并获博士学位，历任Ruhr-University Bochum大学C3教授，Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg大学C4教授，他曾担任该校材料科学与工程系主任和工程学院院长。他的主要研究领域为材料的循环变形、疲劳损伤和高温蠕变等，他在这些研究领域做出了杰出贡献。他发表学术论文270余篇、7本专著、兼任5个国际学术期刊编委，他曾是多个国际委员会的成员和主席。
