Abstract:
This talk will first use hard data to briefly illustrate the scale of challenges and opportunities for heating, cooling and industrial decarbonisation, highlighting the importance of energy storage, including recently red-hot long duration energy storage, in net-zero energy and industrial transition.
The focus is then on how energy storage can help addressing the mega challenges, showing our recent progress on the use of composite phase change materials (CPCM) and thermochemical materials for the decarbonisation of heating, cooling and foundation industry sectors, covering fundamental materials formulation, materials (and their modules) manufacturing, devices and system integration.
Examples of technology development and deployment in these areas are provided, including those already commercially deployed (CPCM-based technology for heating and cooling decarbonisation), under commercial deployment (thermochemical-based storage and refrigeration technology), and being commercialized (BNCF-based in-process closed-loop carbon dioxide splitting and BCNF-based thermochemical hydrogen production).
